I hold a Master of Science in Elementary Education from the Hunter College of the City University of New York and am also a certified Chinese teacher. Over the past twelve years I have taught Mandarin, Cantonese, AP Chinese Language and Culture, and even English as a Second Language.Chinese can often seem daunting to new students, so I make an extra effort to create a fun and supportive learning environment. This is something that students of all ages find helpful in reducing learning anxiety. I also try to find common interests with my students. Learning Chinese is hard enough without having to think of new topics for discussion. If we can use Chinese to discuss topics that we are already familiar with, we can focus our minds on the language. As you can see, I don't believe in just throwing information at my students. I want my students to excel, and I am willing to do anything I can to make sure that happens.When I have time to myself, I watch movies, volunteer, exercise, or travel. These activities are fun and they give me something to talk about with my students, many of whom enjoy similar pursuits.
