EducationCell Biology and Neuroscience major along with Psychology Minor at Rutgers University with an outstanding GPA.
ExperienceMy name is Harsh. I graduated Rutgers University with a major in Cell Biology & Neuroscience along with a minor in psychology. My ultimate goal is to attend medical school and become a physician. Throughout my years as an undergrad, I have hit a lot of obstacles and I have done my best to overcome them. I have taken a lot of science related courses and I have expanded my knowledge of science quite a bit. Some of the courses that I have taken include physics (calc based and non-calc based), chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, neurobiology, physiology, cell biology, advanced neurology, etc. These are just to name a few. I was also involved in a research team at Rutgers that led to a publication in the American Heart Association journal.
Now being a "Neuroscience" major, it may seem that I do not have much experience with chemistry or physics since they aren't specifically my major. However, physical science is my strongest point. While I was taking the chemistry and physics courses in my college, I've put so much time behind those subjects that I'll probably retain the information for the rest of my life. I've achieved outstanding grades in every exam of those classes and i've privately tutored a lot of students from those classes as well. Moreover, I currently tutor physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and physiology for an online tutoring site. I've tutored a lot of students in these subjects and have covered pretty much every type of problem in the subjects listed. My motivation to tutor stems from the success that my students get after I finish every session with them. My approach is to firstly, identify the problem the student is having. I believe tutoring is completely ineffective if the student's specific problem is not identified. I do this by clarifying the question with the student multiple times to see the exact point in the question the student is not grasping. I then work upon the question and explain the question in a way that addresses the problem the student is having in the first place. If the student recognizes his/her mistake and only after learns the correct approach, this is the most effective method of tutoring in my opinion and i've seen all of my students succeed from this approach. For the online site that I currently tutor for, my average rating for all of the subjects listed is a 4.705/5.000. This shows the satisfaction that my students get after their session with me. I am extremely patient when it comes to tutoring- I have in some instances spent a good amount of time just going over the same concept over and over again until the student finally understands it. Even after the student understands the concept, I give an example to reinforce the concept. This I believe is the most efficient method to ensure that the student will retain the concept for a much longer time span. With this being said, I think i'm an excellent fit to be a tutor for the physical sciences (chemistry & physics & organic chemistry) and biological courses (physiology, general biology, etc).
