Education

MD/PhD student, RWJMS/Princeton University BS in Biochemistry, Widener University Certificate of Advanced Honors in General Education, Widener University I am a current MD/PhD student in the highly-competitive combined RWJMS and Princeton University program. My PhD studies are in cell and molecular biology. I hold a bachelors of science in Biochemistry with a certificate of Advanced Honors in General Education. I am also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a national collegiate scholarship honor society, and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national collegiate leadership honor society.

Experience

My goal is to make your success straightforward and stress-free! In order to best help a student achieve his or her goals, I offer a free consultation meeting for all new students. As a biochemistry graduate who has successfully completed upper-level science courses, I am extremely well versed in biology and chemistry. I scored a perfect 36 on the ACT in my first testing attempt. I also scored a 4 or 5 on the AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Lit/Comp, AP Lang/Comp, AP Psychology, and AP Calculus AB exams while in high school. Other scores are available by request. In addition, I have two years of experience in peer education and tutored Honors Latin while in high school. During undergrad, I taught undergraduates about good health practices via a program sponsored by my university's Student Health Services; the quality of our teaching was so high that the program is now included in the University's freshman orientation program. Specific MCAT Tutoring Methods: The MCAT is a test of knowledge, critical thinking/application, and endurance; I target the first area with content review and the latter two requirements with practice tests. I first use a practice exam to assess student strengths and weaknesses. I then assist the student in creating an Excel-based, scheduled curriculum that targets weak areas with intensive content review while maintaining skills in strengths; the study plan also includes full-length practice tests, described below. During face-to-face tutoring sessions, I review the student's performance on problem sets and practice tests question by question, adapting the individualized curriculum as the student's skills develop. My background in the MCAT, including excellent performance in verbal reasoning, as well as my expertise in the sciences (a biochemistry degree and current status as an MD/PhD student) give me the ability to hone students' MCAT readiness. Content Review - In order to ensure that students have sufficient knowledge to take the MCAT and the ability to synthesize that knowledge in question format, my method requires intensive content review. I follow the AAMC curriculum to cover each topic, varying subject areas to maintain student interest. Within a given subject, weak areas, as indicated by practice exams and quizzes, are reinforced by reading and practice question assignments, while areas of strength are maintained with regular problem sets. Practice Tests - In order to give the student confidence in the unfamiliar environment of testing day and develop fast-paced critical analysis skills, intermittent full-length practice tests are scheduled with increasing frequency as the student approaches test date. After practice tests, I review missed questions and areas of concern with the student. If necessary, the student and I modify the curriculum to address newly-discovered needs, ensuring test-day success!

Hobbies

I spend my free time horseback riding, reading, and studying Indian classical dance! I recently completed my SCUBA open water certification and working on a Native American reservation. I very much enjoy teaching students of all levels; there is a special kind of joy only found in helping others have epiphanies. I tutor for the moments when a student's stress disappears and interest in the subject comes back to life.
